Canon Indeed

Description
Commissioned by the choir of the Tampere University of Technology, Finland.
Year of composition 2015. Duration 5’30”
”Canon Indeed – an obvious play on Pachelbel’s Canon in D, which lurks in the background of this piece – is a setting of one of the most famous texts in the history of printing, which as it happens does not really mean anything. Known as lorem ipsum, it has been used since the Renaissance as dummy text in printing layout design. The idea for using this text came from the choir that commissioned the piece, and the canon concept followed logically from the text itself: a strict canon also repeats itself at regular intervals. However, I could not resist also putting in the original source of which the lorem ipsum text is a garbled version, a passage from De finibus bonorum et malorum by Marcus Tullius Cicero.” –Jaakko Mäntyjärvi
