Valo vaeltaaMäntyjärvi Jaakko
Commissioned by the Kannus parish (Kannus, Finland) to the 200th anniversary festivities of the church of Kannus. Year of composition 2017. Duration 9′
This work is a passacaglia as its form, a series of variations built over an unchanged bass melody. But unlike the passacaglia compositions of the baroque era this melody moves every now and then to the other parts of the composition as well more or less hidden, but however, is always present. The repetitive and continuously changing form reflects the stream of time within the historical perspective. The work is an homage to the composer Joonas Kokkonen (1921-1996).
