“In early February 2026, I found myself writing a setting of Sara Teasdale’s poem “There will come soft rains” for a programme of nature-themed music with my own choir, Chamber Choir cc FREIA. As a contrast to slow and sonorous contemplations of nature, I chose to reflect the vitality and continuing life cycle of the natural environment with a light-footed ostinato that runs through almost the entire piece. The music is largely bright and positive, even though the poem strikes a melancholy note in contemplating the indifference of nature to the fate of humans.”
