Description
To Harri Lidsle. Year of composition 1998. Duration ca. 9”-10”
First performance in Helsinki at the Ateneum Hall on October 10, 1998 by Harri Lidsle and Tarmo Järvilehto.
This work takes it name from the line in Act I of William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar. The assassination of Caesar in the play provides the frame for the work, which reaches its climax with the murder. At the beginning the tuba sound is directed into the piano, but later the piano creates various backcloths of sound for the tuba. The tuba part is challenging, above all because of the phrasing.
