Psalm 57 took part in the composition competition of Suomen Naiskuoroliitto (Finnish Female Choir Association) in 2019-2022.
Psalm 57 (10-12) describes musically a big group of people, where an individual is very small, but an essential part of the great entity, like in a society of ants. The possibilities of an individual to get his voice heard may feel insignificant, but a big group together may even change the world. This theme is described by the aleatoric sections, where the weak prayers of individual singers join together to create a big flood, which moves the composition ahead. This work is a hommage to the Polish composer Witold Lutosławski (1913-1994).
