The Sounding Island was premiered by Key Ensemble in April 2016. The lyrics are from Shakespeare’s plays and they deal with the power of music and its influence on people in different ways. The work has been inspired by the expressive timbre of Key Ensemble. The male and female voices are often contrasted with each other in rich bitonal passages, while the rhythmic passages create a dancing vividness.
