The first performance of the work (version with strings) took place in St. John’s cathedral in Helsinki, Finland on the 4th of April 1917 by upper voices of the Suomen Laulu choir with string section of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Heikki Klemetti.
The work is also known by its Finnish title Marian murhe and with the text in Finnish. This is a version in Latin.
